Affiliate disclosure
This site earns money from SilverSingles. This page explains how, in enough detail for you to decide how much weight to give what you read here.
How the site is paid
Every link on this site that goes to SilverSingles carries a tracking code. When you click one and go on to create an account, SilverSingles records that you came from here. If you then buy a Silver Select subscription, this site is paid a share of what you spend. Some links may also pay a small fixed amount for the sign-up itself, whether or not you ever subscribe.
That is the only income the site has. It carries no adverts and no sponsored articles. SilverSingles has not paid for anything written here and has not approved any page on this site.
What it does not change
The price you pay is the same. SilverSingles does not add anything to your bill because you arrived through a tracked link, and it does not offer a lower price if you type the address in yourself. The commission comes out of what SilverSingles would have kept anyway.
The link does not pass any personal information about you. It carries an identifier for this site and nothing else. What you enter on the SilverSingles sign-up form goes to SilverSingles, not to us. The privacy page covers this in more detail.
How you can tell
Tracked links open the SilverSingles site in a new tab, and they are marked in the page code so that search engines treat them as paid. If you would rather not use them, you can reach SilverSingles by typing its address into your browser. We would rather you joined through the site, because that is what keeps it going, but the choice is yours.
Why say all this
The Advertising Standards Authority and the Committee of Advertising Practice, which set the rules for advertising in the UK, expect anyone who is paid to promote a product to make that clear where the reader will see it. The United States has a similar rule through its Federal Trade Commission. That matters here because the company behind SilverSingles is based in North America. The footer of every page carries one line saying that joining through this site supports it. This page spells that line out.
Rules aside, if you are going to trust a page that tells you what a dating service gives you for your money, you should know who is paying for that page. The people who run this site have a working relationship with SuccessfulMatch.com, Inc., the company behind SilverSingles. The about page says more about that.
What we do to keep the pages straight
Being paid on sign-ups gives us a reason to make the service sound better than it is. Our guard against that is to write down where every figure came from, and to say when we have not seen something for ourselves. Where a figure could not be checked, the page says to confirm rather than filling the gap with a guess. If a page reads like a sales pitch, say so at hello@uksilversingles.co.uk.
