Privacy policy

This page explains what happens to information about you when you visit SilverSingles UK. The short version is that this site collects almost nothing, sets no cookies, and cannot see anything you do on SilverSingles itself. The longer version follows. It is written to meet the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who is responsible

The people who run SilverSingles UK, described on the about page, are the data controller for this website, which means we decide what is collected and why. You can reach us at hello@uksilversingles.co.uk. We are not the controller for anything you do on SilverSingles. That is SuccessfulMatch.com, Inc., and their own privacy policy applies from the moment you land on their site.

This site sets no cookies

No page on this site places a cookie on your device. There is no login and nothing to remember between visits, so there is nothing for a cookie to do. Because of this there is no cookie banner.

What we do measure

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count how many people visit and which pages they read. It works without cookies and stores nothing on your device. Cloudflare says it does not track visitors over time by IP address, browser details or any other fixed attribute, and it does not follow you to other websites. What we see is a count of page views, the country a visitor came from, the site that sent them, and the type of device, browser and operating system. We cannot tell one visitor from another and we cannot identify anyone.

Cloudflare also serves the pages themselves. Like any web host it keeps technical logs so that the service works and can be defended against attack. Those logs can include your IP address. They belong to Cloudflare, are kept for as long as its own privacy policy says, and are not something we read.

Links to SilverSingles

Links from this site to SilverSingles carry a tracking code so that SilverSingles knows you came from here. That is how the site is paid, as the affiliate disclosure explains. The code identifies this website. It contains nothing about you. Anything you enter on the sign-up form goes to SilverSingles, not to us. What SilverSingles reports back to this site when someone joins is to confirm, and we will say here if it ever includes anything about you. Once you are on the SilverSingles site, their privacy policy is the one that matters, and it is worth reading before you create an account.

If you email us

If you write to hello@uksilversingles.co.uk we will have your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use it only to reply to you and to fix whatever you wrote about. We do not have a mailing list, so there is nothing to add you to, and we do not pass your address to anyone else. We delete correspondence once the matter is closed, and in any case within twelve months.

Please do not send us details of your SilverSingles account, your password, or screenshots that show other members. We cannot act on them and would rather not hold them. Account problems go to SilverSingles support, whose details are on the contact page.

The legal basis

UK GDPR requires a lawful basis for any use of personal data. For the analytics described above, no personal data is processed, so no basis is needed. For replying to an email, the basis is our legitimate interest in answering people who write to us and keeping the site accurate.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to how it is used, or ask for a copy. Because the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email you sent us, most requests will be answered by deleting that email and confirming that we have done so. To make a request, write to hello@uksilversingles.co.uk. We will reply within one month.

If you are not happy with how we handled a request, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator. Its website is ico.org.uk.

Children

SilverSingles is for people aged 50 and over, and this site is written for the same readers. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18, and no part of the site is aimed at them.

Changes to this page

If we start collecting anything new, or change a service we rely on, this page will be updated first and the date at the bottom will move. We will not add cookies or tracking without saying so here.
