Yes, SilverSingles is legitimate: a real company, a real service agreement, a working member site and a refund window. The first heading below covers what we saw on screen on 15 September 2026. The second covers what nobody outside the company can see.
What we could check
Who runs it. The operator is SuccessfulMatch.com, Inc., and it has been since May 2026. Before that the brand belonged to a German company that also ran the old UK address, silversingles.co.uk. That address is dead now, so if you typed it in and got nothing, that is why. The live site is silversingles.com, UK members included.
The service agreement sets the minimum age at 50, and the sign-up form's age range starts there. We have not seen the site ask for a date of birth, so how it checks is to confirm.
Verification. Inside the member site, under Me, then Get Verified and Stand Out, there are three checks. The profile photo check takes 3 to 8 seconds, the mobile number check takes about 5 seconds, and the email check is a link. The page says verification is free for now. Our account, which held a complimentary Silver Select membership at the time, could use every feature without completing the photo or phone check. A new free account was not let off so lightly: on first log-in the site opens Verify Your Account ("Takes only 3-8 seconds", "No additional documents required") and asks for "a clear photo of your face", and until that photo is uploaded every member page (home, Flame, settings, payment) redirects back to the log-in screen. That is what we met on 17 September 2026. SilverSingles states it does not conduct background checks on members. None of the checks above is a background check.
The refund window. The service agreement allows a refund within three working days of subscribing. After that there is no refund. This is short, and it is the single most useful thing to know before you pay.
Auto-renewal and the cancel path. Renewal is on by default. Switching it off is done inside the account, at Me, then Settings, then Payment, then Payment Details, then Renewal Status. The page looks like this.

Renewal Status is the line to watch. On this account the Renewal Status line showed a dash, and the note beneath it spelled out that automatic renewal was off: the membership runs to its expiry date and then all 33 Silver Select privileges are lost. The same box gives the support email, support@silversingles.com, and two phone numbers, 1-416-628-1072 and 1-888-702-1274, staffed 9am to 5pm Eastern Time. Both numbers are North American, so from the UK the sensible route is email. The step-by-step version is on cancel auto-renewal.
Deleting the account is at Me, then Settings, then Account Management, then Pause or Delete Account, and it asks for your password before it does anything. The same row promises a pause as well as a deletion. We did not enter the password, so what pausing does to your profile is to confirm.
A good share of the complaints about the old site came from people who could not work out how to cancel. On the current site the settings page is one long list, and Payment Details sits about halfway down it.

Two switches at the top are worth knowing about before you join. Enable Global Visibility controls whether members in other countries can see you at all. Prevent Incoming Video & Voice Calls does what it says. Further down are Two-Factor Authentication, the lists of hidden members and conversations, the service agreement and privacy policy, and the delete option. We did not change any of them.
What a free account can and cannot do. The free tier covers three things. Create a profile, add photos and a voice introduction. Browse profiles in Flame and Gallery. Join interest groups and see meet-up listings. The labels are explained in the glossary. Sending a private message to anyone you like needs Silver Select, and so does seeing who liked or viewed you. The full list of 33 privileges is on the free versus Silver Select page.
What we could not check
The site does not publish member numbers, and we have not found a figure we would trust for the UK. When we looked on 15 September 2026, the 1:1 Meetup list showed ten hosts: eight in the United States, one in Germany and one in England whose meet-up had already ended. The five still open to join were all in the United States or Germany. That tells you where the people posting meet-ups are, but not how many members are near you.
We did not send messages, winks or likes from the account we check with, so we cannot say how quickly a message gets a reply or how many profiles are active in a given week.
We do not print prices on this site. What we can say is where they are: the website shows its plans on a screen headed "CHOOSE MEMBERSHIP PLAN" before you pay, in US dollars when a new free account reached it on 17 September 2026, and the App Store listing shows the app's own prices, also in dollars. The two are not the same, so look at the figure on your own screen and be sure which of the two you are buying through. What a UK card is charged in pounds through either is to confirm. The cost page shows how to reach the plan screen on a free account and what to check on it.
Nor can we say how many profiles are fake. Fraudsters join every dating site, and the reviews mention them, but nobody outside the company can count them. The tools for reporting and hiding people do exist, and they are described on the safety page.
The complaints people make
Four come up again and again in reviews and forum threads.
"It renewed without asking." This is one of the commonest, and it is a fair one. Renewal is on by default and the subscription renews for the same length as the plan you first bought. The refund window after any charge is three working days. The fix is to turn Renewal Status off the day you subscribe, using the path shown in the first screenshot above. If you do that, the subscription simply runs out. Steps on cancel auto-renewal.
"It said free, then I couldn't message anyone." Also fair. A free account can build a profile, browse and join groups, but private messaging is a Silver Select privilege. Use the free account to look around: see who is near you, then decide whether a month of Silver Select is worth it. The comparison is on free versus Silver Select.
"My matches are hundreds of miles away." Whether you see members outside the UK depends on one switch. Enable Global Visibility was switched off on our account in every screenshot we took on 15 and 16 September 2026, and what a brand-new account gets is to confirm. The switch is at Me, then Settings, then Privacy & Visibility, then Global Visibility (switch off). With it off, members outside the UK stop appearing and you stop appearing to them. The walkthrough is on only see UK members.
"Half the profiles are blank." True of the first card we saw in Flame. On 15 September 2026 it showed a member with no photo, and by the next day they had added one. How common blank profiles are across the site is to confirm. A blank profile is not a fake. It is still not worth your time. The page on profiles without photos explains how to skip past them.
Reviews elsewhere
Public review sites carry many SilverSingles reviews, and most of the ones we read date from before the handover in May 2026. We do not repeat their scores here. A score for the old service says little about the site as it runs now, and we do not give one of our own. A rating from a site that earns commission when you join would not be worth much to you.
The themes in those reviews are the ones above: renewals, the cost of messaging, distance, and fake profiles. A cluster from around May 2026 is from members who had paid the old operator and then found the old site gone. That belongs to the handover, not to the current member site, and the fixes for the renewal and messaging complaints are further up this page.
Where that leaves a UK reader
Yes, SilverSingles is legitimate, and the sensible way in is the free account: join, switch Global Visibility off, and see who is near you before you spend anything. If there are enough people you would like to talk to, a month of Silver Select lets you message them. Turn renewal off the same day you pay and the month simply runs out. Those two switches deal with two of the commonest complaints before they happen.
Skip it if you want a free service that lets you message, if you live somewhere rural and are not willing to travel, or if you would rather not deal with a company whose support phone line is in Canada. A site that may show you members abroad until you check one setting, and that has so far shown us prices only in dollars, is a compromise for a UK reader. It is fair to decide the compromise is not for you.
If it is for you, the free account costs nothing. Start with the free account, look around, and only pay once you have seen who is near you. The how it works page walks through sign-up, and the home page has the short version of everything on this site.
