Received a message or profile that leaves you wondering? Paste the wording below, or drag in a screenshot straight from Finder, Windows Explorer, or your phone's photo library. In a couple of seconds our judgement engine checks it against eight UK romance-fraud patterns, highlights any suspicious region on your screenshot, and draws a clear risk breakdown. It is free, there is nothing to sign up for, and we never store what you upload.

How the scam checker works

  1. Paste the message or drop in a screenshot. You can copy the wording from a message, or drag a screenshot straight from Mac Finder, Windows Explorer, or your phone gallery. Your browser resizes the image locally before sending.
  2. Get a calibrated probability breakdown. Instead of a vague chatbot opinion, our judgement model evaluates eight specific romance-fraud signals simultaneously, calculates the probability of each risk level from 0 to 4, and locates suspicious areas on your screenshot.
  3. Follow the British safety checklist. Every result gives you a plain next step, together with the direct numbers for your bank (159) and Action Fraud if money has ever been mentioned.

What the eight signals measure

According to City of London Police figures quoted by the Financial Conduct Authority, each victim who reported a romance fraud in 2025 lost an average of £11,222. Across British police and Age UK reports, almost every case follows the same four-stage funnel: a flattering opening, coaxing you off the dating site onto WhatsApp, inventing a reason they cannot meet or video-call, and finally a sudden financial emergency. The chart above checks all eight building blocks of that script at once, including Age UK's four core warning signs: people who "avoid video calls or meeting in person", "want to move your conversation onto a different platform too quickly", "message you intensively, overwhelm you with affection, and even declare love very early on", and "ask you for money".

On SilverSingles, on first log-in the site opens Verify Your Account ("Takes only 3-8 seconds", "No additional documents required") and asks for "a clear photo of your face", and until that photo is uploaded every member page (home, Flame, settings, payment) redirects back to the log-in screen, and if someone behaves suspiciously you can report the member from their profile or your conversation with them. Even so, no automated check catches every plausible story. Running a message or screenshot through the checker above before you hand over a mobile number or move to WhatsApp gives you a calm second opinion in two seconds. Our safety page and romance scams in the UK explain how to verify a match step by step.

Questions people ask

Is the scam checker free and private?
Yes. It is completely free, requires no registration, and sets no cookies. Whatever you paste or upload is sent over an encrypted connection to compute the risk scores and discarded immediately afterwards. Nothing is stored on our servers.
Can I upload a screenshot from my computer or phone?
Yes. You can drag and drop a PNG or JPEG screenshot onto the upload box, or tap the button to pick a file from Mac Finder, Windows File Explorer, or your phone photo library. Your browser automatically scales the image to a safe size before sending.
What does a low risk score mean?
A low score means the wording or screenshot you checked did not contain classic romance-fraud scripts such as WhatsApp isolation, offshore excuses, or requests for money. It is not a guarantee that the person is genuine. Always stay on the dating site until you have had a live video call, and always meet in a busy public place during the day.
Why do scammers ask to move to WhatsApp so quickly?
Dating sites run automated fraud filters and allow members to report suspicious accounts. If a scammer moves you to WhatsApp or personal email on day two, you still have their phone number even after the dating site bans their profile. On SilverSingles, upgrading to Silver Select lets you exchange unlimited messages inside the site so you never need to hand out your mobile number early.
What should I do if I have already sent money or a gift card?
Stop all contact with the sender, do not pay any "release fee" or "recovery company", call your bank immediately (dial 159 in the UK), and report the incident to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. Keep screenshots of the messages and receipts for the police and your bank.
